AS Monaco: Krépin Diatta left out of Champions League squad

More changes to AS Monaco’s official squad list for this season’s Champions League campaign. Krépin Diatta has once again been left out of the squad.

Last September, AS Monaco took advantage of a UEFA regulation that allows a player sidelined with an injury expected to last at least 60 days to be replaced on the Champions League eligible list by a teammate. At that time, Krépin Diatta replaced Denis Zakaria.

However, with the return from injury of the ASM captain after two months out, the Swiss midfielder has reclaimed his spot on the UEFA list. As a result, Krépin Diatta has once again been removed from the squad. This is a headache for new Monaco coach Sébastien Pocognoli, who was counting on the Senegalese international. “Krépin is a very important player for me, for my system. He’s one of the guys who’s definitely been performing at a very high level since I arrived, but that’s how it is. The decision was made before I got here, so we adapt,” admitted the ASM boss, who was not responsible for drawing up the list at the start of the season.

Monaco will, however, have the opportunity to amend its squad list in January, ahead of the knockout stage.
