The Simpsons & Fortnite and five more famous pop culture crossovers

Bowser and Wreck-It Ralph
While Super Mario doesn’t appear in the 2012 Disney film Wreck-It Ralph, his arch nemesis Bowser does. In a scene filled to the brim with crossover-cameos we see Ralph attend a therapy session for video game villains with attendees including: Dr Robotnik, aka Dr Eggman, from Sonic The Hedgehog, M. Bison from Street Fighter and the cowardly orange ghost Clyde from Pacman.
But it’s in the 2018 sequel, Ralph Breaks The Internet, that the crossovers really hit hyperdrive, with appearances from Guardians of The Galaxy’s Groot, C-3PO and First Order Stormtroopers from Star Wars, and a wide array of Disney Princesses including Jasmine, Moana, Cinderella, Anna and Elsa.
Speaking of Disney crossovers, here’s one you might have missed. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Disney, filmmakers inserted more than 100 references to past Disney films in the 2023 animated film Wish. These Easter eggs include metaphorical crossovers, such as wishing upon a star (Pinocchio), visual crossovers, like Asha having seven friends with distinct personalities (Snow White), and references in the lyrics, for example when Asha sings about wishing to have ‘hair touch down to your feet’ (Tangled).
And just like that, we’re at the end of our list. But here are a few notable mentions that could have quite easily have made the crossover onto our list:
- Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)
- Kingdom Hearts (2002)
- Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite (2017)
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018)
- Ready Player One (2018)
- Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022)
