However, the injury bug has hit the roster hard, with several key members of the team either on injured reserve, or playing through injury as they attempt to remain on the active roster.
Holani is one of only three running backs on the 53 man roster, so even if he is able to stay off injured reserve, any missed time at all would require extra depth in the backfield, and according to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Seahawks are set to sign a Super Bowl champion running back.
Cam Akers was a second round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, but an Achilles injury on the eve of 2021 training camp derailed most of his second season. Akers did return to the field late in the 2021 season, starting three of four postseason games for Los Angeles on their way to defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.
Akers has recorded 2,044 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns during his career with the Rams, Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans, having spent the entirety of his career playing either for Sean McVay or an offensive coordinator mentored by McVay.
As of publication, there was no confirmation from the team, meaning it is uncertain whether Akers will be added to the practice squad or to the active roster. Seattle has a pair of open spots on the active roster after placing Tory Horton on injured reserve Saturday and waiving Derion Kendrick Tuesday.
