📈 Sporting v Club Brugge Form & Stats
Sporting will be hoping to build on an excellent start to their continental campaign, which has seen them pick up seven points from their opening four games.
They’ve been particularly impressive at home, thrashing Kairat Almaty 4-1, before coming from behind to record an impressive 2-1 victory against Marseille, who are a force to be reckoned with under Roberto De Zerbi. Last time out, a 1-1 draw against Juventus at the Allianz is not to be sniffed at, although they were unable to take anything home from their trip to Napoli, where they lost 2-1 despite leading the xG (1.35 – 0.88).
Domestically, it looks set to be a two-horse race in Portugal once again, with Porto the current front-runners. Only the league leaders have managed to inflict defeat on Sporting, who have otherwise recorded nine wins and a draw.
If Sporting avoid defeat against Club Brugge, it will take their unbeaten run into the double-digits, although that’s certainly not a given. The Belgian outfit have been defeated just twice across their 15 league matches to date, picking up 32 points since the start of the season.
They haven’t endured quite as much success in the Champions League, but it should be noted that they’ve had a very tough run of fixtures. Brugge opened their campaign with a 4-1 demolition job against Monaco, but were unable to carry that momentum into clashes with Bayern and Atalanta, losing both.
Most recently, they held Barcelona to a 3-3 draw at the Jan Breydel Stadium, where they roughly matched their opponents in terms of expected goals, despite retaining only 24% of possession.
