“More washed than a used car”, “Can’t cope with it anymore” – Liverpool fans slam star player after 4-1 loss to PSV

Liverpool fans are furious with Virgil van Dijk after his performance against PSV in the UEFA Champions League. Many believe that the Dutchman was the key reason for their 4-1 loss at Anfield.

Van Dijk gave away a penalty early in the game after he made contact with the ball by throwing his hand in the air during a corner. Dominik Szoboszlai pulled the home side level around 10 minutes later, and the teams went in level at halftime.

The second half saw the Dutch side pull away, scoring three goals without any reply. Guss Til made it 2-1 in the 73rd minute, while a brace from Couhaib Driouech late in the game sealed a 4-1 win.

Liverpool fans were quick to point fingers at Van Dijk today and posted:

Van Dijk’s performance was an issue today, and it came just hours after he wrote in the matchday programme:

“It goes without saying that we need to show a reaction this evening. Saturday’s defeat by Nottingham Forest was bad, a really tough day for us all, and the position we find ourselves in right now is not acceptable. Everyone has to step up and take responsibility, and show that they have the desire and the character to turn things around.”

“At the moment, we are letting ourselves down, letting the manager down and letting you guys down, and we know that has to change. Like I say, it is on us to make that change, nobody else. We can talk about what’s going wrong and what we need to do, but it’s about actions, not words. Each and every one of us has to first look in the mirror and then, as a team, we have to come together to show that we are better than this, stronger than this.”

Arne Slot’s side have now lost nine of their last 12 matches in all competitions.

Wayne Rooney slammed Liverpool leaders for poor form

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney hit out at Liverpool leaders after their defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Englishman said that the top players were not pushing their teammates and said on BBC’s Match of the Day:

“Liverpool are a very good team and they’re going through a very difficult moment. They’ve been going through a tough time all season really. Even at the beginning of the season, they won games, but they were struggling with performance. Throughout the season, it’s those leaders in that dressing room that have to pick the players up.”

Liverpool face West Ham United this weekend, before taking on Sunderland.
