But Tottenham legend Lineker and die-hard fan McIntyre were unable to follow the action as it unfolded.

That’s because they were part of a brand new Sky Sports show called ‘In The Box’ which puts fans from both team in the same room and cuts them off from the outside world.

It then drip feeds bits of information throughout the match before revealing the full-time score at the end.

All Lineker, comedian McIntyre and their Arsenal counterparts had to work with in the first half was a still image of a gilt-edged Declan Rice chance.

Both sets of fans maintained hope of a derby win before the countdown revealed the final score.

But the Spurs contingent were left heartbroken when the extent of their beating became clear.

McIntyre stood with both hands on his head and Lineker looked dejected as the euphoric group of Arsenal fans ran around the room celebrating.

Lineker is an outspoken Leicester City supporter but his North London Derby loyalties lie with Spurs – where he scored 80 goals in 138 games for them between 1989 and 1992.

Sky Sports pundits were treated to a sneak peak of ‘In The Box’ after the full-time whistle on Sunday.

And Tottenham legend Les Ferdinand reckoned Lineker and McIntyre were spared by not having to watch the whole match.

He said: “Tottenham were that bad today. It was embarrassing to watch.

“Halfway through this game I was hoping I could go ‘in the box’ with Michael McIntyre. I didn’t want to watch it anymore.

“You can’t come to Arsenal in the North London Derby and not put everything on the line.”
