Blue Jackets’ Werenski in, Marchenko and Olivier out vs. Maple Leafs

Werenski suffered an upper-body injury in Columbus’s 5-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday but he won’t end up missing any time.

It is unclear when the injury occurred, but Werenski left the game after 17:36 of time on ice.

The 28-year-old has 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists), tied for third among defencemen in the NHL. He ranks second in average ice time at 26:50 per game.

Marchenko, meanwhile, missed Monday’s game with an upper-body injury suffered during the day’s morning skate, which he left early.

The 25-year-old is the Blue Jackets’ leading scorer through 23 games, with eight goals and 14 assists while playing an average of 18:58 ice time per night — the most among forwards.

Olivier, 28, also suffered an upper-body injury in the game against the Capitals, leaving the showdown in the first period after playing only 4:49. It’s unclear how his injury occurred.

The winger has three goals and six assists this season, with a team-high 44 penalty minutes. He’s averaging 13:60 ice time per night.

Slotting into the lineup will be centre Luca Pinelli, who’s set to make his NHL debut.

Selected 114th overall by the Blue Jackets in 2023, the Stoney Creek, Ont., native has five goals and five assists through 13 games with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League.

The Blue Jackets (11-9-3) are hoping to snap a two-game skid as they play host to the Maple Leafs (9-10-3), who have lost seven of their last 10 games.
