Two schools in Melbourne’s south-east were locked down on Thursday morning after an eight-year-old boy was stabbed on the grounds of a local primary school.
Emergency services were called to Brentwood Park Primary School in Berwick around 9am on Thursday after reports of the incident.
Brentwood Park Primary School briefly went into lockdown on Thursday after an eight-year-old boy was stabbed.
The boy, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was treated at the scene by paramedics while a woman, a school staff member, sustained minor injuries and was also treated at the scene.
Police say an 11-year-old boy was found nearby and questioned. He was later taken to hospital for assessment.
Both Brentwood Park Primary and nearby Kambrya College were briefly locked down in the aftermath of the incident for the safety of staff and students.
Brentwood Park was able to resume normal operations shortly after the incident and is working with authorities.
“We are currently working with Brentwood Park Primary School regarding an incident this morning involving a young student who behaved in a dangerous manner,” a Department of Education spokesperson said.
“The school enacted its safety procedures, and police and paramedics attended the school. We are supporting both the staff member and the student and are providing additional wellbeing supports to those who need it.”
