Fake Brad Pitt catfish conned me out of £90k then flew me to US to sit in empty room

A pensioner has described being duped into believing she was in a romantic relationship with Brad Pitt and duped out of £90,000. She flew to the United States, where she was hoping to meet Pitt, and ended up waiting three weeks in a hotel room for him never to appear. The Swiss woman, referred to as Patricia, thought she had been talking with the real Hollywood star or months. But he was actually an American scammer.
In May 2024, she followed his Instagram page and then recieved a direct message from a profile claiming to be Pitt’s manager, asking if she would mind contacting the actor. They then began talking “normally” and “very gently”, the woman recalled. Gradually, she began to feel as though she was falling in love, and there was a “real relationship developing”. The person posing as Pitt told her he loved her.
One message from him read: “My love, you are my everything now and forever.”
The victim told Mise au Point: “He asks me a lot of questions about what I feel, about how I like things, how I see life, and then one day he makes me understand that he is in love with me.”
The pair then discussed meeting in person, but the scammer claimed that he needed to be sent cash.
He wrote: “Baby, it’s $50,000 requested by my management.”
This was a standard fee for anyone spending time with the film star, the claimed.
Suspicious, the woman was initially reluctant to spend the money, The Daily Mail reports.
She said: “I thought to myself: ‘Well, maybe that’s just how they do things… I’ve never been in contact with an actor before.'”
After the real Pitt appeared at the Venice Film Festival that summer, she packed a bag and hoped to receive instructions to meet him.
But these never came, and the inpersonator instead sent her flowers and a message.
It read: “I love you so much, baby. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Pitt.”
He then asked for $10,000 (£7.5k) for apparent medical expenses, and then another $10,000.
The fake Pitt then suggested meeting in Los Angeles, but never showed.
Patricia spending three weeks in her hotel, drinking cocktails on her own.
She spent an extra $20,000 before going back home.
Upon returning to Switerland, she saw a story about a French woman being swindled out of €830,000 to another Brad Pitt impersonator, and realised that she had been cruelly.
