Milwaukee Bucks vs Philadelphia 76ers Preview

After an up-and-down stretch of form and results, the Milwaukee Bucks have dropped their last two games. They were beaten by the Los Angeles Lakers 119–95, followed by a 118–106 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. A bigger concern than the defeat against the Cavaliers was the injury suffered by the Milwaukee Bucks’ best player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, in the second quarter – an injury that kept him out for the rest of the game. The Bucks currently sit at 8–7.

The Milwaukee Bucks did receive the best possible news when imaging on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s tendon showed no major damage, with the Greek superstar expected to miss between one and two weeks. That’s a favorable development for the Bucks, especially since the rest of the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers – after Giannis Antetokounmpo went down – highlighted just how difficult it is for this team to function without its top player and the league’s second-leading scorer so far. He’s a major reason behind the Bucks’ elite shooting numbers: they’re the second-best three-point shooting team at 41.5%, and they rank fifth in overall field-goal percentage at 49.5%. With him on the floor, the Bucks are far more dangerous in transition and consistently generate open looks from deep, as defenses tend to pack the paint to slow down the spectacular Greek forward. In his absence, the burden of organizing the offense will fall even more on the shoulders of the outstanding Ryan Rollins, who has been superb, as well as Cole Anthony, who has significantly underperformed this season. Rollins earned a starting role after Kevin Porter Jr.’s injury and has maximized the opportunity – he has scored 20 or more in three of his last four games and is averaging 5.3 assists on the season.

After a more than solid start to the new season, the Philadelphia 76ers have entered a stretch of inconsistent results. Over their last six games, wins and losses have alternated, and in their previous eight outings they’ve managed just three victories against five defeats. They stand at 8–6 overall, which currently keeps them in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. In their last two games, the Sixers beat the Los Angeles Clippers 110–108 before falling to the Toronto Raptors 121–112.

What we’ve seen from the Philadelphia 76ers since the start of the season is a gradual change of generations. Tyrese Maxey has already established himself as the team’s best player, and much has been said about the ways he scores. He’s one of the fastest and most explosive players in the league, dangerous from the perimeter as well – but few expected him to be averaging 32.5 points per game over a meaningful sample of contests. Of course, Joel Embiid’s latest absence – he has missed the last four games – has contributed to that, while Paul George has played only once this season. Quentin Grimes has also demonstrated that he’s a serious NBA-level contributor, and rookie VJ Edgecombe has fit in brilliantly; if he keeps playing like this, he’ll certainly be in the Rookie of the Year conversation. The Sixers own the league’s sixth-best three-point percentage, and while they sit around the middle in both scoring and overall field-goal percentage, their offense functions at a high level – good enough for the eighth-best offensive rating. Interestingly, despite having one of the league’s fastest stars, the Sixers play at a very controlled pace, the fifth-slowest in the NBA. They rank 11th in rebounding and are also in the upper half of the league in turnover percentage.

Injuries and Suspensions

Milwaukee Bucks vs Philadelphia 76ers Best Betting Tip and Prediction

The Milwaukee Bucks will enter this game — and the next few as well — without their absolute best player, Giannis Antetokounmpo. His skill set and athleticism simply can’t be replaced, something the Bucks learned the hard way in the remainder of their last game after he went down with an injury. The Philadelphia 76ers, on the other hand, have far more weapons offensively and have shown they can compete successfully even when one of their key players is sidelined. There’s also a sense that they’ll be highly motivated to take advantage of a weakened opponent that swept them in all four meetings last season. We believe they’ll manage to do exactly that — the Philadelphia 76ers should come away with a win in this matchup.
