Stranger Things returns: Fans celebrate Season 5 amid streaming glitches

The highly anticipated Stranger Things Season 5 premiered on Netflix on Thursday, sparking both excitement and frustration as thousands of viewers reported streaming issues during the initial rollout.

Premiere and fan reactions

The final season of Stranger Things has brought the Hawkins heroes back for a climactic battle against Vecna and the Upside Down. Fans immediately took to social media to share their excitement, with posts highlighting themed snacks, costumes, and family viewing setups.

However, the launch also led to technical issues on Netflix, with some users reporting outages and freezes. Comments on X included:

“Stranger Things already crashed nice!”

“This Netflix crashing, I just wanted to watch Stranger Things.”

“Netflix seems to be down for me Nooooooo… And it’s back up, here we go!”

Some viewers took precautions to avoid spoilers, while others prepared themed food and viewing rituals, including Eggos, popcorn in Demogorgon-themed buckets, and Surfer Boy Pizza.

Show details

Season 5 of Stranger Things sees Eleven confronting her former psychic companion, One (also known as Vecna), while Will’s connection to the Upside Down is further explored. The first four episodes, released as Volume 1, are now available on Netflix. The remaining episodes are scheduled for December 25, 2025, and the season finale will air on December 31, 2025.

Fans also expressed mixed opinions about the season’s content. Some praised the nostalgia and excitement, while others criticised certain scenes as “cringe-worthy” and awaited more action from characters like Nancy.

Netflix outage details

The premiere caused streaming issues for thousands of users. Downdetector reported nearly 14,000 outage notifications shortly after the first four episodes went live. Viewers received errors including NSEZ-403 and “Something went wrong,” preventing them from accessing the platform. Netflix advised switching devices to resolve the NSEZ-403 error.

Despite the problems, Netflix confirmed that it was “not currently experiencing an interruption to [its] streaming service.” The platform had previously increased its bandwidth by 30 percent in anticipation of high demand for the Season 5 premiere.

While Stranger Things Season 5 has generated excitement among fans, the premiere highlighted the challenges of streaming high-demand content. With Volume 1 now available and the next episodes set for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, fans can expect an intense final chapter in Hawkins.
