Ice Chips: Habs G Dobes to start Wednesday vs. Mammoth

Montreal Canadiens
Goaltender Jakub Dobes will get the start tomorrow night against the Utah Mammoth.
Dobes is coming off a 24-save performance in a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
The 24-year-old is 7-2-2 in 11 appearances this season with an .895 save percentage and 2.88 goals-against average. He opened the 2025-26 season with six straight wins before losing four straight.
Montreal begins a three-game road trip with games against Utah, Vegas and Colorado.
Vancouver Canucks
General manager Patrik Allvin announced that goaltender Kevin Lankinen will not travel with the team for personal teams and that goaltender Jiri Patera has been recalled from AHL Abbotsford under emergency conditions.
The Canucks are set to embark on a four-game road trip through California and Colorado.

Lankinen, 30, is 4-7-2 with an .880 save percentage and 3.63 goals-against average in 13 appearances this season.
He is in the first season of a five-year, $22.5 million contract with an AAV of $4.5 million.
Patera has appeared in five games with Abbotsford, going 1-2-1 with an .894 save percentage and 3.10 GAA. He started one game in Vancouver this season, allowing seven goals in a 8-5 loss to the Florida Panthers on Nov. 17.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Captain Auston Matthews, Matthew Knies and Nicolas Roy all skated in grey sweaters at practice this morning but their status remains TBD.
“Knies, Matthews and Roy all practised today,” said head coach Craig Berube. “Looked good, finished practice but still have to see about tomorrow so that’s where they’re at. But it was good that they were out there and finished practice and went through all the drills.”

Matthews has missed the last five games with a lower-body injury he picked up on Nov. 11 against the Boston Bruins.
The 28-year-old has nine goals and 14 points in 17 games this season.
Knies, 23, has not suited up since Nov. 15 against the Chicago Blackhawks due to a lower-body injury. He has five goals and 22 points in 19 games this season.
Roy was on the ice for Leafs practice on Monday but has not played since getting hurt against the Blackhawks. He has one goal and three assists in 19 appearances this season.

Defenceman Jake McCabe is back on the ice for the first time since getting hurt in Saturday’s loss to the Montreal Canadiens. He departed the game early with an upper-body injury and did not skate on Monday.
Head coach Craig Berube said he expects McCabe to play on Wednesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Columbus Blue Jackets
Defenceman Zach Werenski as well as forwards Kirill Marchenko, Sean Monahan and Mathieu Olivier were not on the ice for practice this morning.
Head coach Dean Evason provided an update that Werenski and Monahan (maintenance day) are “working through some stuff today.” He expects Werenski to skate tomorrow and see where he’s at with the Blue Jackets taking on the Maple Leafs Wednesday.
Evason adds that Marchenko and Olivier are seeing doctors today.

Werenski and Olivier were both injured in last night’s game against the Washington Capitals and left the game with upper-body injuries.
Werenski played through the first two periods but did not come out for the third before being ruled out. He played 17:36 with four shots and a block. The 28-year-old has seven goals and 21 points this season.
Olivier skated for only 4:49 before departing the game with the injury. He has three goals and nine points in 22 games this season.
Marchenko missed last night’s game after he departed the team’s morning skate halfway through with an apparent injury.
He has eight goals and 22 points in 22 games this season.
Blue Jackets team insider Jeff Svoboda says veteran defenceman Brendan Smith, who signed a one-year, two-way contract yesterday, has joined the team.
Smith started the season skating with the team’s AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters. He had one assist in 11 games.
He spent the 2024-25 season with the Dallas Stars, scoring one goal with five assists in 32 games.
