Denny’s Closes Santa Rosa Location Amid Changes in Ownership

Denny’s has recently closed its location at Coddingtown Mall on W. Steele Lane in Santa Rosa, marking a significant moment in the restaurant chain’s transition as it embarks on a new chapter under private ownership. The closure comes amidst the backdrop of a $620 million acquisition deal with investment firms TriArtisan Capital Advisors, Treville Capital, and Yadav Enterprises, which was officially announced on November 3.
Signs prominently displayed at the Coddingtown location inform customers of the closure and direct them to another Denny’s on Baker Avenue, the only remaining operational location in Santa Rosa. Meanwhile, Petaluma’s Denny’s on Petaluma Boulevard continues to serve diners. This shift leaves residents with limited options as the future of other Denny’s locations in the North Bay area hangs in the balance.
Recent years have not been kind to the chain, which has seen a decline in performance. The Santa Rosa closure is part of a broader strategic plan that includes the anticipated closure of up to 150 underperforming stores by the end of 2025. While specific locations affected by the closures have not been released, the Coddingtown closure is a reflection of this ongoing trend.
Denny’s history in the area has also included previous closures, such as the one in Ukiah, which shut its doors in 2023. This location is slated to be transformed into a Habit Burger & Grill. Additionally, a Napa location closed in 2022, as reported by the Napa Valley Register. However, as of late November, Denny’s restaurants in Vallejo, Fairfield, and Cordelia were still operational.

The company’s stock saw a remarkable increase of 47% following the announcement of its sale, signaling investor optimism for a revitalized future. TriArtisan Co-Founder and Managing Director Rhohit Manocha expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Denny’s management and franchisees to support the chain’s long-term strategic growth efforts.
Denny’s, known for its round-the-clock dining services and classic breakfast offerings, operates over 1,500 locations across the United States, with 348 of those in California. As changes unfold, the company’s website has been updated, reflecting the current landscape with only one Denny’s listed in Santa Rosa, leaving many to speculate on what the future holds for this iconic diner chain.
