Black Friday Nintendo Switch Console Deals

Hands-on tested: Lets-a go!

Harvey Isitt, Empire

This bundle from Amazon pairs the console with Nintendo’s flagship title, making it an easy way to start with the new system.

Mario Kart World takes advantage of the Switch 2’s upgraded hardware with 24-player online races, a locked 60fps when both players use handheld mode, and support for single-Joy-Con play for local multiplayer. The new Knockout mode combines six tracks into a single continuous race, adding a survival-style spin. The game also stands out visually on the Switch 2’s 1080p HDR screen, with brighter, more vibrant colors and sharper detail than previous iterations.

This is perhaps the best bundle for anyone looking to race straight out the gate.

Donkey Kong barrels back with his first proper 3D outing since the N64 days, and Donkey Kong Bananza goes full chest-thump. You’re smashing through mines, ruins, and collapsible jungles in a platformer that’s equal parts chaos and craftsmanship. There are ancient secrets, bananas with lore, and a villainous tech cult called VoidCo stirring up trouble. It’s shaping up to be a heavyweight for DK loyalists and anyone still dreaming about Mario Odyssey‘s level design. It dropped just over a month post-launch, marking Nintendo’s first major follow-up for the Switch 2.

Pokémon Legends Z-A takes a different approach to Pokémon battles, swapping the familiar turn-based system for real-time movement and positioning. You can freely move around the battlefield, dodge attacks and, better yet, time abilities, making it feel closer to an action-adventure game than a traditional Pokémon title.

Mario Kart World is the Switch 2’s headline racer at launch and the first in the series to go fully open-world. Its city districts, changing weather, and expanded single-player mode mark the biggest shift in the franchise for years, backed by sharper visuals and smoother performance on the new hardware. Local split-screen and online races return, along with a broader range of karts, characters, and customisation options.

The Switch 2’s improved stability and haptic rumble add weight to collisions and drift boosts, while faster loading helps keep multiplayer flowing.

One of the Switch 2’s strongest family-friendly multiplayer games, Super Mario Party Jamboree has over 100 mini-games plus classic board-style modes. It runs at 60fps on Switch 2 hardware, with sharper visuals, punchier color and smoother animation than earlier party entries. Mini-games also take advantage of improved HD Rumble, a welcome addition to rhythm-based challenges.

Local play supports up to four players on a single console, and the TV broadcast view turns group sessions into a shared watching-and-playing setup, adding a bit of spectacle to the usual couch multiplayer. The discount is huge, but it brings a new first-party Switch 2 release below full price for homes that still like to party.

The Switch 2 Pro keeps the same overall feel as its predecessor, but with some small improvements. Grips are slightly smaller, analogue sticks are smoother with tight tread zones too, and the D-pad registers input with less force. Two rear buttons (GL and GR) can be mapped to any control on an individual-game basis, and the controller now has a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio.

Other updates tackle in-game convenience. There’s a dedicated C button for quick access to Nintendo’s GameChat voice system, and a honed HD Rumble for subtler in-game feedback.

JSAUX

This three-pack of tempered-glass protectors is an essential for Switch players, especially those who take the console on their travels. With the Switch 2’s larger 7.9-inch 1080p display, repairs cost far more than a simple protective layer, and the handheld form factor means drops and bumps are likely over time.

Each protector uses 9H-tempred glass to resist scratches and absorb impact. Installation is wet-applied, letting you reposition the film before sealing. And because handheld screens aren’t constantly touched like phone displays, the protectors tend to last longer. At this price, it’s a must-have in our opinion.

JSAUX

There’s only one downside to taking your precious Switch handheld with you wherever you go – the dreaded drops, knocks and scratches. Keep all of those at bay with this Belkin Nintendo Switch 2 case. This custom-designed travel bag has a built-in AirTag holder and a storage Pocket for 12 games. The hard shell and soft interior makes this a wise buy this Black Friday.

Turtle Beach

Why not have a bit of fun when it comes to controller designs? This Turtle Beach wireless controller is styled after the bright and colorful Mario series. It’s officially licensed by Nintendo, so there’ll be no compatibility issues.

How to find the best Black Friday deals

Alongside our roundups for film fans, TV lovers, and gamers, we’ll also send out a newsletter featuring the latest updates and hand-picked discounts. Sign up for the Empire newsletter and be the first to know about the latest offers.

Here are a few simple ways to get the best bargains:

Set Deal Alerts: Sign up for retailers’ newsletters and enable app notifications for early access to limited-time offers.

Make a Wish List: Add your must-haves online. Many sites will alert you when those items drop in price.

Use Price Trackers: Tools like CamelCamelCamel and Keepa show a product’s price history, so you’ll know if you’re truly getting a genuine Black Friday deal.

Compare Across Sites: Don’t settle for the first deal you see. Check multiple retailers for the best price.

What Black Friday tech deals are expected?

Every year brings something different, but you can usually expect strong discounts on:

 TVs and soundbars

 Headphones, earphones, and speakers

 Laptops and tablets

 Game consoles and games

Smart home devices (such as the Amazon Echo)

Phones and wearable tech (like smartwatches and fitness trackers)

In recent years, Amazon device deals have been among the biggest highlights, often matching or even surpassing Prime Day prices.

Are Black Friday deals the best deals?

Black Friday is known for big savings on tech and other big-ticket items, but not every deal is unique to the day. Some discounts are matched, or even beaten, during other sales. Use a price tracker to check if it’s truly the lowest price this year, and if you find a genuine bargain, move fast. The best offers tend to sell out fast.

Black Friday Nintendo Switch FAQs

Can the Nintendo Switch 2 share games?

We’re pleased to confirm that it can. The Nintendo Switch 2 system is able to share compatible games with another Switch 2 or Switch gamer.

Is Nintendo Switch 2 backwards compatible with original Switch games?

Yes. The Switch 2 can play both physical and digital games from the original Nintendo Switch. Some titles have also received upgraded “Switch 2 Edition” versions with improved visuals and performance, many of which are free. A small number of games still require the original Joy-Cons because of their built-in IR sensors. It’s rare, but it’s worth checking Nintendo’s official compatibility page to be certain before you buy.

Are Nintendo Switch 2 bundles worth buying compared to standalone consoles?

Yes. With the Mario Kart World bundle, you’re paying £409 versus £395 for the console alone. Since the game retails for £60, you’re getting over £45 in savings. Third-party bundles from certain retailers sometimes include accessories (cases, extra Joy-Cons, etc.) raising the value even further. If you’re intending to buy titles like Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza, bundles guarantee savings. Standalone consoles better suit undecided buyers or those who already have an online catalogue on their initial Switch.

If I have two Switch 2 consoles do I need to buy two copies of the same game?

While you can share digital games across several accounts, to play the same game at the same time (across more than one console) you’ll need to buy more than one copy.
