Digital Foundry offers a technical deep dive for Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition

Back on Nov. 18th, 2025, Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics shadowdropped Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for Switch and Switch 2. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition brings the remaster of 2013’s critically acclaimed Tomb Raider to Nintendo platforms for the first time and lets you experience Lara Croft’s origin story at home or on the go in this viscerally intense action-adventure, complete with the Definitive Edition’s improved graphics, added control features, all previously released DLCs, online multiplayer for up to eight players and more.

Wondering just how up to snuff these releases of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition are? We’ve already shared a number of comparison videos, but now the experts at Digital Foundry have weighed in with their two cents. According to them, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Switch 2 is far from “definitive”.

While a locked 60fps at 1080p resolution is present, there appear to be no enhancements for docked mode over mobile, suggesting a lot of GPU power left on the table. Meanwhile, visual settings are cut back to the barebones – and even the original PlayStation 3 version of the game has features that are missing in the new port. In fact, Switch 2 seems to be a closer match for Switch 1, albeit with increased resolution and double the frame-rate.
