With their night marred by policing troubles ahead of the match, Stuttgart were looking to lighten the evening up for the remainder of the travelling contingent, with multiple buses containing VfB supporters turning around ahead of kick-off.
And they would begin by controlling the opening period. Jamie Leweling came closest for Die Schwaben just as the clock ticked over 15 minutes.
The winger, sent in behind by Angelo Stiller, decided to shoot from an angle – seeing his shot saved with relative ease, when a pass across the box to the onrushing Lorenz Assignon seemed viable.
Leweling would make amends just four minutes later, with the winger opening the scoring after a cutting move.
Maximilian Mittelstädt capitalised on a sloppy goal kick, before firing a ball into the feet of Deniz Undav, whose lovely knock on found Leweling inside the box, before he poked the ball over the legs of Jari De Busser to give VfB a 1-0 lead.
The wideman would add a second just over 15 minutes later, after being picked out in acres of space by Stiller. Stuttgart’s number 18 would drive centrally, before deceiving the Go Ahead Eagles back four, and De Busser with a lovely reverse effort into the bottom left corner.
The hosts started the second half much more lively, with substitute Oskar Siira Sivertsen causing a hatful of problems down the right-hand side in the early stages.
Though for Stuttgart, Bilal El Khannouss remained just as lively down their own right-hand side. With just over half an hour to play, the Moroccan added a third for VfB, with a clean and powerful half-volley on his left foot after Undav picked the ball out of the sky fantastically.
Aiming to end their away hoodoo in Europe, Sebastian Hoeneß’s side were in party mode – controlling the tie with relative ease both in and out of possession, while a swarm of fireworks flew into the Deventer air away from De Adelaarshorst.

Jamie Leweling came close to netting a hat-trick five minutes later after being slipped through by Undav, with the onrushing De Busser doing well to deny the German international.
Badredine Bouanani would add a fourth via a one-on-one in the 93rd minute for VfB, putting the icing on the cake after a comprehensive night, lifting them up to 13th in the standings ahead of the final push against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Roma and Young Boys.
