Bengals’ Joe Flacco says he still feels ‘a little funny’ saying ‘Who Dey’

Bengals Beat Reporter Kelsey Conway discusses the Bengals loss to the Steelers

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco talked to reporters Nov. 19 after watching starter Joe Burrow do 11-on-11 work for the first time since returning to practice, while Flacco took the day off from throwing.

“I think just being in Ohio, you can just tell how much football means to people in this part of the country,” Flacco said. “From the time they’re probably young … you can tell they care about it a lot. And they have those expectations. And they get themselves excited to come in and cheer for us in those games. I’ve played here a good amount. And honestly I’ve probably missed that part of it a little bit. But when you’re here, you kind of walk around the city and you get to see people from here. You can tell how into it they are. Just with the little “Who Dey”s on the side of the road and things like that. I’m not quite sure how to respond yet. I still feel a little funny saying it. But I’m getting there.”

Flacco was asked how Burrow looked in 11-on-11 work.

“Joe (Burrow) looked good,” Flacco said after practice. “It’s cool to see him out there. Obviously when you’re both now taking reps, and things like that, conversations kinda happen. And just like ‘how do you see this vs. that?’ But yeah, Joe looked good.”

Flacco is 1-5 in six career starts against the Patriots.

“They’ve got a lot of talent, and they’re really well coached,” Flacco said of head coach Mike Vrabel and the Patriots. “Their head coach played there, throughout his career, and kinda now as the head coach of the Patriots, he probably learned a lot of things from the type of culture that he grew up playing in that he was able to bring to the team that he’s now coaching. Just that culture and that mindset, you know being physical and and being confident, I think it obviously shows in their team right now.”
