Starbucks Opens on Black Friday with New Seasonal Offerings

In a display of ongoing labor activism, members and supporters of Starbucks Workers United gathered outside a Starbucks location in Dupont Circle, Washington, D.C., on November 16, 2023. This protest coincided with Starbucks’ promotional “Red Cup Day,” a popular event among coffee enthusiasts that marks the beginning of the holiday season for the company. Those involved in the demonstration aimed to press the company to respect union rights and advocate for better working conditions in non-union stores.

The protests come amidst an increased focus on workers’ rights within the retail and food service industries, with Starbucks facing scrutiny over its treatment of employees and its response to unionization efforts. Activists called for solidarity and reform, highlighting the importance of fair labor practices as the busy holiday season approaches.

As shoppers prepare for Black Friday on November 28, 2025, many are looking for ways to stay energized amidst the bustling crowds and long lines. Starbucks stores across the country are making adjustments to their hours to accommodate the shopping rush. Notably, the Starbucks Reserve at the Empire State Building will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., while other locations, such as the one at 61 9th Avenue in New York, will operate from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Chicago’s Starbucks Roastery will welcome customers from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a location in San Antonio will have extended hours from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. On the East Coast, a store in Worcester, Massachusetts, will serve customers from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Customers are encouraged to check specific hours for their closest location, which can be found through the Starbucks store locator, Google Maps, or by direct inquiry.

In addition to the standard holiday offerings, Starbucks has unveiled a new seasonal beverage in partnership with Target. Starting November 18, 2025, customers can enjoy the Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate, a festive drink combining rich chocolate flavors with cool peppermint and topped with peppermint-flavored whipped cream and colorful sprinkles. Alicia Binion from Starbucks’ beverage development team expressed that this drink is a delightful addition designed specifically for Target guests.

“This beverage brings together rich chocolate and cool peppermint flavors, as well as red and green sprinkles for a pop of color and crunch. It’s a sweet way to pause during the holiday rush and enjoy a little seasonal cheer,” Binion stated.

This new drink will be available throughout the holiday season, adding to the festive spirit of Black Friday and the upcoming weeks of consumer celebration.
