A winter storm is forecast to drop several inches of snow across the Chicago area starting Saturday morning.

Black Friday started off with single-digit wind chills, but overall dry.

The National Weather Service upgraded the previous Winter Storm Watch into a Winter Storm Warning, which is set to go into effect for the Chicago area at 3 a.m. Saturday and remain in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday.

ABC7 Accuweather Meteorologist Jaisol Martinez says the first snow is expected to move into the area around 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. Saturday. The heaviest snow forecast to fall during the afternoon and early evening.

There is potential for parts of the area to see a switch over from snow to rain Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Areas in and around Chicago and Northwest Indiana could see five to eight inches of snow while areas to north and west of the city could see more than eight inches of snow.

After the snow moves out, cold will remain Sunday, with overnight lows in single digits.

For the Midwest and East Coast, the storm could create dangerous conditions for the thousands of people heading back home after Thanksgiving.
