‘I’m a gay woman’ — Louise McSharry comes out and announces split from husband

There’s a lot of change that’s been happening in Louise McSharry’s life, as the former 2FM presenter revealed she and husband Gordon Spierin have amicably parted ways.
Not only that, but in recent years, she’s also come to the realisation that she’s a ‘gay woman’.
The 43-year-old opened up on the massive life changes that have been going on during the recent episode of her podcast Catch Up, facilitated by Una Mullally, and shared that she and Gordon have thankfully ‘managed to transition to a beautiful friendship’ as they co-parent their sons Sam and Ted.

Louise revealed that while she had a ‘question mark’ around her sexuality, it wasn’t until she had an intense therapy session in 2022 that she ‘landed’ on the realisation that she is a gay woman.
After returning home, Gordon had asked her was she Okay, and while she initially replied that she was, she burst into tears and blurted out: ‘I think I’m gay.’
Gordon’s response was simply: ‘I’m not surprised,’ and Louise revealed that he had once even asked her if she thought she was bisexual shortly after they got married in 2015, but she had just been ‘kidding’ herself.

She shared on the realisation: ‘That obviously set off a massive domino effect in our lives, what it meant for our relationship, what it meant for our family, our immediate family, us and the boys. What our future was going to look like, all of these questions, I didn’t really have answers to them at the time.’
‘The most difficult part for me is the Gordon of it all, because I care so much about him. I feel so lucky that we have managed to transition to a beautiful friendship.
‘It’s obviously complicated, and it’s been really difficult, but we are in a really good place now.’

The timing of the announcement comes as Louise prepares to move out of their family home in the next few weeks, having recently bought a new house.
She continued: ‘This week, I bought a house. I finally closed on a house, so I will be moving in the next couple of weeks into my own space, and we are going to have a new family life.
‘It’s been really difficult, and it’s been really strange not to talk about stuff.

‘I’m obviously quite emotional about [moving house] because it feels wrong to not be doing it with Gordon. It’s very difficult because we’re not fighting.
‘We’re not in a bad place. We love each other so much. There’s no one I want to spend time with more than him.’
The podcaster shared her hopes for the future, adding: ‘Gordon deserves to have a full romantic relationship, and I have to give myself the chance to explore this as well.’
