Monsters and mad scientists are likely the initial thoughts that spring to mind when pondering Stranger Things as the new season is launched but the smash-hit series is also the launching pad for an pop sensation.
Operating under the moniker ‘Djo’, this 32-year-old performer has captivated an incredible 326 million listeners with his chart-topping anthem End of Beginning. Despite being released nearly two years ago, this tribute to Chicago has absolutely dominated TikTok throughout this year, soaring to number one in Spotify’s worldwide rankings.
Still struggling to work out who it could be? Remarkably, it’s Joe Keery – best recognised for portraying the adored character Steve Harrington in the blockbuster Netflix phenomenon. In one month alone he racked up an astounding 42.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and established himself as one of the streaming giant’s most popular artists.

This bombshell discovery has left internet users absolutely gobsmacked, with many confessing they initially mistook the track for a Tame Impala creation. In a viral TikTok shared by Jarred Jermaine (@jarredjermaine), the influential content creator quizzed his 5.6 million followers: “Did you know Steve from Stranger Things (Joe Keery) made music?”.
One stunned fan responded: “Joe Keery is from DJO? ? ? how am i only finding out now? I’ve been a fan since 2019! ! !”, whilst another chimed in: “I thought this was a Tame Impala song”. “What!”, “No way” and “Girl, that’s him?” were just a few of the stunned reactions to the surprising post.
It seems TikTokers weren’t the only ones left scratching their heads by Djo’s success, as Joe himself recently admitted he was ‘more baffled than ever’.

“I have literally no idea what’s going on,” he confessed to The Rolling Stone in a recent interview. “I’m probably more confused than ever, but it’s really, really cool to see something that you’ve written affect people and have them take it in as their own and into their own lives.”
Joe isn’t the first star to juggle acting and singing, with big names like Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus also starting their careers on Nickelodeon and Disney shows. While Joe isn’t planning to give up acting for music completely, he says it satisfies his ‘creative itch’ while waiting for auditions and new roles.
“People can see themselves in the song,” he added. “People substitute [my experience] for their own version in their own lives. It’s not a feeling that’s unique in their own lives.”
