Why Bears’ D’Andre Swift is losing touches to Kyle Monangai in Week 13

The Chicago Bears have been deploying two running backs on a more consistent basis as the season has progressed.
After veteran running back D’Andre Swift dominated touches and snaps earlier in the season, rookie Kyle Monangai has worked his way into a bigger role, and he even had more touches than Swift in Week 12.
Here’s a closer look at why the Bears have been giving Monangai more looks recently.
Why D’Andre Swift is losing touches to Kyle Monangai
There’s a few explanations for this.
For starters, Monangai has proven to be an effective player when given opportunities, so he is deserving of more work.
We also know that Bears head coach Ben Johnson loved to utilize two backs during his days with the Detroit Lions with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs both getting work on a consistent basis.
This approach also helps keep Swift fresh for the stretch run of the regular season and the playoffs, so there’s that, also.
It would appear that a split between Monangai and Swift will be the new normal in Chicago.
