Mahomes’ praise of Eric Morris signals confidence in Oklahoma State’s new coach

As Oklahoma State begins its new chapter under head coach Eric Morris, former Texas Tech quarterback and NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes has already offered high praise for the Cowboys’ new leader.

Speaking during a Nov. 12 press conference, Mahomes reflected on his time working with Morris at Texas Tech and credited him for creating an environment that allowed quarterbacks to thrive. Mahomes noted Morris’ ability to recognize talent and tailor his offensive approach to maximize each player’s strengths.

“He gives you confidence to go out there, be yourself, and play the game the way you’re supposed to play, and he’ll change the offense for that.”

“He has a good feel for making you comfortable, that’s the biggest thing,” Mahomes said. “He gives you confidence to play the game the way you are supposed to and he’ll change the offense for that. It’s not surprising to me that he has had so much success at North Texas and will in the future.”

Mahomes was recruited by Morris as a three-star prospect out of Whitehouse, Texas, choosing the Red Raiders over offers from Oklahoma State and Rice. Morris, a former Texas Tech wide receiver, returned to his alma mater as co-offensive coordinator in 2013 before taking over full-time play-calling duties, helping shape the system that launched Mahomes into stardom.

Mahomes also shared that he has remained close with Morris and his family, noting how rewarding it’s been to see his former coach continue to grow both personally and professionally.

The endorsement should help solidify the decision for Morris to lead the program and live up to his quarterback teaching background.
