Alan Carr and Amanda Holden secure huge BBC Christmas special

Alan Carr and his pal Amanda Holden have secured themselves a Christmas special on the BBC which will see them travel to Italy, Spain and later on, head to Greece

Alan and Amanda will be showing us how to have a Spanish-themed Christmas

Alan Carr and Amanda Holden have landed the first festive version of their BBC1 renovation series which has taken them to Italy, Spain and – next year – Greece.

The hour-long Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Christmas will follow the pair of pals back to the village of Moclín in southern Spain, where they renovated a B&B in their third series, Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job.

The series, which aired earlier this year and was filmed in 2024, pulled in two million viewers during January and February. The new seasonal special will feature Alan fresh from his win on The Celebrity Traitors – although this special had been pre-recorded long before the Claudia Winkleman-fronted series aired.

The pair of pals will explore Spanish Christmas traditions, from baking seasonal treats to sampling traditional delicacies, before throwing a festive party as a thank you to the locals who helped them with their work.

The first series of Amanda & Alan aired in January 2023 saw the pair tackle a flat in Sicily, while the second series tackled a project in Tuscany. A fourth run, set in Greece, is due to start in January.

Amanda has previously said she’d like to take on a renovation in Japan, but it is not possible for her to go that far afield because she has to jet back and forth for her Heart Radio breakfast show.

Other programmes unveiled this week for the Christmas season include a first festive outing for both Amandaland and Here We Go, plus a new adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s book The Scarecrow’s Wedding and Dame Helen Mirren bringing in a treasured item from a care home on The Repair Shop.

New surprises included Anton du Beke appearing as a guest on Sewing Bee with new host Sophie Willan. He’ll be joined by comedian and recent resident in The Traitors castle Lucy Beaumont, actress Susan Wokoma and Gladiator Tom Wilson, AKA Hammer.

The stars will put their twist on a pattern for a festive present sack, turn second hand party wear into an outfit inspired by the twelve days of Christmas and create an outfit inspired by their favourite Christmas treat. Should have us all in stitches…

Another revelation was that Dawn French will appear alongside Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse in the festive edition of Gone Fishing.
