Why did Jessie J break down during her latest performance? Singer shares raw moment while premiering heartfelt track
Jessie J debuted new songs on stage in London for the launch of her new album, Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time, on November 28. But the Grammy-nominated singer couldn’t help but become emotional during the performance of one of the songs in the album called Comes in Waves.
She broke down because the song is inspired by her pregnancy loss. It has the lyrics, “It comes in waves, like I’m drowning in a love I crave that you gave me / And I hate how much I miss the future that we never made.” She told the audience about it in the video footage shared by The Daily Mail, saying:
“Today marks four years that I lost my baby. I don’t know if anyone has gone through the same thing, but if you have, or you know someone close to you and you saw, it’s really f**king bad.”
She dedicated the song to anyone who has gone through the same thing and needs a hug, and hopes that it helps others the way it helped her. She explained to the audience that having a miscarriage is not something anyone can really prepare to go through
Her new album comes after she announced that she had a miscarriage in 2021. The singer shared on Instagram in November that year that she decided to have a baby on her own. But she received the news that the baby no longer had a heartbeat when she went in for her third scan. Two years later, Jessie J and her boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman welcomed their son.
Jessie J is set to kick off 2026 with her rescheduled tour in the US

Jessie J was originally scheduled to go on tour across North America in November 2025, but the entire US tour was cancelled back in August following her cancer diagnosis. The UK and European Tour originally scheduled for October 2025 was postponed until 2026 because she had to undergo a second surgery.
However, she revealed in October that her second breast cancer surgery was postponed. She called it “frustrating” in an Instagram video because she had already cancelled or rescheduled her tour. With the UK and European legs of the tour already rescheduled, there was nothing to do about it. However, for the cancelled American legs, Jessie J said that she has been able to rebook.
Instead of starting in the UK and Europe, she will kick off The No Secrets Tour in the US, starting on January 21 at the Center Stage Theater in Atlanta. She’s going on a trek across the US until the first week of February before touring across the UK and Europe in April.
Comes in Waves is not the only emotional song in Jessie J’s new album. It also features I’ll Never Know Why, which is inspired by the “deep grief” after the death of her friend and bodyguard, Dave, in 2019.
