Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 premiered with the first four episodes on November 26, 2025, and it gave us one of its most unexpected moments when Karen Wheeler, of all people, comes face to face with a Demogorgon. The quiet suburban mom has never been part of the monster chaos… until a Demogorgon literally bursts into her house and goes after Holly.
And instead of freezing or screaming, Karen just snaps into survival mode. She grabs whatever she can get her hands on and fights the thing. In an interview with Tudum, Cara Buono said,
It was so satisfying to finally see Karen get her big hero moment. I was laughing reading it, but also kind of emotional, because it felt like everything had been building up to this.
If you have watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, you cannot help but think of that iconic Julie Walters’ Molly Weasley’s fight against Bellatrix. Molly was not a warrior either, but the second Ginny was threatened, she unlocked a whole new level of mom rage.

Whether the Duffer brothers meant it or not, Karen Wheeler basically gets her own little Molly Weasley moment, and it is one of the most memorable parts of Season 5.

Will Holly Be Able to Help Max Escape?
One of the biggest surprises in Stranger Things Season 5 is how Holly Wheeler ends up becoming way more important than anyone ever expected, especially when it comes to Max.
By the end of Volume 1, Max’s body is still in a coma in the real world, but her mind is trapped inside this creepy psychic space that Vecna/ Henry Creel created. It is basically a world built out of Henry’s own memories, and she has tucked herself away inside one of the few that has one element he is terrified to revisit, aka the caves. And she is not alone there.
Holly gets pulled into the same mindscape, and the two actually find each other in this version of reality. Holly can help Max; the show basically sets them up as a two-person alliance inside Vecna’s nightmare, but their chances depend on whether they can outsmart a villain as strong as Vecna.
Is Will-Vecna Connection Similar to Harry Potter and Voldemort?

In the last episode of Volume 1, instead of just sensing him or getting chills down his neck, Will actually taps into Vecna’s hive mind and turns it back on the monsters. When he channels that connection and takes control of the Demogorgons to save his friends.
If you are a Harry Potter fan, it is impossible not to see the echo of the Harry–Voldemort dynamic in all this. Harry did not ask to be connected to Voldemort; that link was born after a killing curse backfired, and a sliver of Voldemort’s soul lived inside him. Harry could feel what Voldemort felt, see what he saw, and even speak Parseltongue.
Just like Harry, Will has also been able to feel Vecna for years. But eventually, it became part of what helped him understand and ultimately maybe even help him defeat the villain who made his life hell.
