A teenage boy was taken to hospital after being injured with a samurai sword at a busy shopping centre on Black Friday.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident at Merry Hill shopping centre in Brierley Hill, Dudley, on Friday, November 28, where the teen was hurt.

He was treated for injuries before being taken to hospital for further assessment, but did not sustain serious injuries.

Shoppers and restaurant workers said they saw knifemen carrying a ‘samurai sword’ at the busy shopping centre.

Witnesses told Birmingham Live that the incident took place at Merry Hill’s food hall known as Eat Central.

“Three or four guys, roadmen, came running through here. One guy was chasing and then he slashed another guy,” a restaurant worker said.

The food hall remained open after the incident.

West Midlands Police said it was made aware of a group of people ‘armed with a weapon’ just after 3.30pm, and West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the scene at 3.39pm to discover the injured teenager.

The mall had returned to normal by early evening.

“We are aware of an incident that occurred in the centre this afternoon and we are assisting West Midlands Police with its investigation,” said Merry Hill centre manager Jonathan Poole.

West Midland Police said officers were in the area while they investigated who was involved in the incident and provide reassurance.
