Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate injury update: What we know about Ohio State’s stars vs. Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Ohio State football was without its top two receivers, Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, against Rutgers last week. It’s unclear if they’ll be back on the field Saturday at Michigan.
Smith and Tate are considered questionable heading into The Game.
Will they play? Here’s what we know as kickoff approaches between the Buckeyes and Wolverines.
What we knew about Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate before this week
Tate hasn’t played for Ohio State since a Nov. 1 win over Penn State.
On Nov. 8, with Ohio State playing at Purdue, Tate wasn’t listed on the Buckeyes’ availability report. However, he felt tight while preparing for the contest and was held out due to precautionary reasons, according to OSU coach Ryan Day.
Tate was unavailable against UCLA (Nov. 15) and Rutgers (Nov. 22).
Smith first appeared on Ohio State’s availability report ahead of the win over UCLA. He took the field against the Bruins despite being listed as questionable, but he only played 22 snaps.
Against Rutgers, he was listed as out.
Monday, Nov. 24: Jeremiah Smith provides update while Ryan Day holds back
Day appeared on 97.1 The Fan on Monday and said Smith and Tate were trending in the right direction this week.
Day did not provide much of an update beyond that.
However, shortly after Day’s appearance, a clip from the “Downs 2 Business” podcast surfaced. In it, the show teased an appearance from Smith in which he said he was “feeling good” and should be “good to go” against Michigan.
Tuesday, Nov. 25: Ryan Day says Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate are trying to play vs. Michigan
Day, while speaking at his weekly press conference Tuesday, again offered little update about the status of Smith and Tate.
“They’re doing everything they can to play in The Game,” Day said.
Wednesday, Nov. 26: Ryan Day smirks while providing update
Wednesday was the penultimate opportunity for Ohio State beat reporters to ask Day about Smith and Tate.
When asked if he had an update on the two, he provided a familiar answer.
“No,” Day said with a smirk. “But we did have a good day. Everybody was out there (at practice). We’ll see how the next 48 hours go.”
