FKA twigs praises North West’s maturity while collaborating on new album Eusexua

In a revealing interview with Rolling Stone UK, FKA twigs shared insights into her creative journey surrounding her upcoming album, Eusexua, scheduled for release in January 2025. Notably, the album includes a collaboration with North West, the talented 12-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who contributes a Japanese rap to the track “Childlike Things.”
FKA twigs, whose real name is Tahlia Debrett Barnett, expressed how profound it was to work alongside North. The singer reminisced about penning “Childlike Things” when she was only 12 or 13, marking it as one of her earliest creations. Reflecting on their collaboration, twigs noted North’s remarkable maturity and depth. “I feel like she’s seen so much and she’s so mature in a lot of ways, especially emotionally,” twigs remarked. The two artists connected over intimate dinners, where North shared insights that deeply resonated with twigs. “I felt taken aback by her observations of humility that were very on the nose and very true to the things that I’ve learned as an adult,” she said.
The collaboration served as a full-circle moment for twigs. She shared that writing the song was a healing experience, especially considering her childhood struggles with bullying and isolation. “To give the child in me, who was a bit of a loner when I wrote that song, a tenacious, confident friend like North West, to come and hang out with, was really special,” twigs explained.
In addition to her work with North, FKA twigs has continued to evolve her musical style. This marks her third studio album, following LP1 and Magdalene. She also mentioned Eusexua Afterglow, a deluxe edition of the album, which holds significant meaning for her. The singer described the album’s sounds as “crystallised pieces of water,” emphasizing the clarity and precision in her messages.

Twigs added that the essence of Eusexua reflects the notion that while ideas can be perfect in their moment, it’s natural for them to evolve over time. This perspective underscores her artistic philosophy, highlighting the importance of embracing change and growth in the creative process.
As excitement builds for the album’s release, it’s clear that FKA twigs is celebrating not only her own journey but also uplifting the emerging talents of the next generation, such as North West.
