Tyler Adams doesn’t score a lot of goals but when he does, they tend to be spectacular.
The Bournemouth midfielder took advantage of a Sunderland turnover to score an incredible long-range goal on Saturday, finding the net from 50 yards out.
With Bournemouth already up 1-0 in the 15th minute, Adams got on the end of a wayward pass near midfield and surged forward on a counterattack.
After crossing midfield, the American noticed Black Cats goalkeeper Robin Roefs off his line and unleashed a perfectly placed chip from the bottom of the midfield circle.
A backpedaling Roefs could only get fingertips on the ball as he flailed his right arm backwards, unable to prevent the ball from hitting the back of the net.
Opta measured Adams’ goal at 47.4 yards out, the farthest scored by an American in the Premier League besides Tim Howard’s full-field goal in 2012.
The goal was Adams’ second of the season after he also scored earlier this month in a defeat at Manchester City. The goal at the Etihad Stadium was the 26-year-old’s first the club level since he scored for RB Leipzig against Mainz all the way back in January 2021.
But at the international level, Adams scored memorable long-range goal for the U.S. men’s national team in a 2024 Concacaf Nations League final win over Mexico.
