Fans divided on Peking Duk after AFLW grand final pre-match entertainment

Australian electronic duo Peking Duk have received mixed reviews for their pre-match performance ahead of the AFLW grand final between Brisbane and North Melbourne.

In front of a packed house at Ikon Park on Saturday night, the Canberra-born pair played a 17-minute set that included six tracks featuring four different singers.

Peking Duk, who started recording in 2010 but shot to prominence in 2014 with Hottest 100 top-five hits High and Take Me Over, are made up of Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles.

Hyde, who also performs as a solo act under the alias Keli Holiday, opened the set with his 2025 hit Dancin2, which is among the favourites for this year’s Hottest 100 countdown.

He then stepped back to join Styles as Peking Duk behind the decks, welcoming Safia’s Ben Woolner, who sung Take Me Over and Say My Name.

The pair were then joined by Zimbabwe-born, London-raised, and Melbourne-based artist KYE, who sung Peking Duk’s unreleased track, Thrills.

To finish the set, the duo were joined by longtime vocalist Lucy Lucy, who has been on several tours with Peking Duk. She sung 2018 classic Fire and 2014 hit High.

The set was well received by fans in the stands, but not everyone at home was as thrilled.

“Turned on the AFLW grand final. Saw Peking Duk. Turned it off,” one fan said.

Another compared it to the infamous Meatloaf performance at the men’s grand final in 2011.

“Surely the two AFLW teams and their supporters competing in a grand final deserve better than this rubbish. This may have eclipsed Meatloaf as the worst pre-match ‘entertainment’,” he said, before adding, “Now they are bringing up their friends to perform. Seriously, it’s not a garage party in North Fitzroy. This is a train wreck.”

Someone else added: “Could not agree more. Surely Peking Duk isn’t the only Aussie artist in 2025 they could’ve gotten?”

“Well let’s hope the game is better then this Peking Duk performance…,” another one said.

It wasn’t all negative feedback though.

“Peking Duk. Inject it into my veins. 10/10,” one happy fan said.

“Still filthy that this is at Ikon Park and not Marvel. Also Peking Duk go OFF !!” someone else said.
