Andrew Garfield & Rebecca Ferguson’s Adaptation of 82-Year-Old Bestselling Novel Gets Exciting Tease From Bridgerton Star

Fans of The Magic Fairaway Tree won’t need to wait much longer to explore The Enchanted Wood. On Saturday, Nicola Coughlan offered an update on the highly-anticipated adaptation, teasing that the film’s trailer, which had previously been airing in movie theaters throughout the UK and Ireland, will be seeing a wider release “very soon.”
“This is Silky- so called because of her silky, golden hair (naturally),” the actress wrote on Instagram alongside a first-look at her character, the beloved blonde fairy. “This movie is really, really, really special and I can’t wait for you all to see it.
Based on the British fantasy novels by author Enid Blyton, The Magic Fairaway Tree centers around the adventures of the Thompson family, who, after moving to the English countryside, discover a giant tree with a whole host of magical residents and the ability to take them away to magical locales. The first title in the main series was The Enchanted Wood, published in 1939. The Magic Faraway Tree was the second entry, released in 1943.

Coughlan’s post comes days after Gregor, Coughlan, Ferguson and others, offered fans a sneak peek of the project, unveiling The Magic Faraway Tree‘s official poster in a joint post shared to Instagram. “Thrilled to share the first teaser poster for #TheMagicFarawayTree movie,” they captioned the post, noting that some fans across the pond could watch the trailer before screenings of Wicked: For Good. “We can’t wait for you to see it!” they continued. “Go watch the trailer on the big screen!”
Alongside Coughlan, the film features Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy as parents Tim and Polly Thompson and Dune‘s Rebecca Ferguson as Dame Snap, the headmistress of the Thompson children’s school. Ben Gregor directed the adventure film, with a script written by Simon Farnaby (Paddington 2, Wonka).

While exciting for fans, this all-star lineup proved particularly inspiring for screenwriter Simon Farnaby, who praised Garfield and Foy’s acting chops shortly after their casting was announced in 2024.
“To have two actors of the quality of Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy is a dream for any screenwriter,” Farnabay, who previously co-wrote Wonka and Citizen Kane-rival Paddington 2, said of the duo, per Variety. Beyond complimenting the pair’s respective crafts — “I have long admired their warmth, wit and lightness of touch,” he added — Farnaby touted the depth both actors brought to their respective roles.
“They have the power to imbue their characters’ complexities that I don’t have the power to write,” the screenwriter continued. “Even Enid Blyton might be impressed we got Spider-Man and the Queen,” he said, referring to Garfield’s Sony Pictures franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Claire Foy’s role as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown.
Director Ben Gregor also expressed his enthusiasm for working alongside the pair. “Andrew and Claire are exquisite performers and I feel so spoiled to have them for this film,” the Cuckoo filmmaker spilled at the time, according to the publication. “They are the cornerstones of our big-hearted world and the perfect people to bring our lovely script to life.”
The Magic Faraway Tree is slated to hit theaters in March 2026.
