When are stimulus checks being mailed? $2,000 stimulus check update

Trump plan for Obamacare subsidies on hold after GOP pushback
President Donald Trump’s plan for Obamacare subsidies was delayed following Republican pushback.
Talk of President Donald Trump’s promised $2,000 stimulus checks continues to circulate, but there has been little concrete information on the proposal since he discussed it on social media.
Though White House officials indicated those checks could land in 2026, rumors and talk of a 2025 stimulus payment continue to circulate on unverified websites and social media posts.
Stimulus checks — direct payments the federal government sends to Americans during periods of economic strain — were last issued in 2021, when millions received up to $1,400 through the American Rescue Plan. Since then, no new round of federal stimulus payments has been approved.
Americans must take any news about these rumored stimulus checks with caution, as it may be misinformation or an attempt at fraud. These payments have not been officially approved, as no Internal Revenue Service or Congressional officials have confirmed them, which is the first step in sending out stimulus checks.
Here’s the latest verified information on stimulus checks in 2025 and updates on previous talk of payments.
Where is my stimulus check 2025?
It seems highly unlikely that a stimulus check, tariff refund or IRS direct deposit will happen in 2025.
Though some lawmakers created proposals and Trump said he would send payments, there has been no action on them. In order for a stimulus payment to become a reality, Congress would have to approve the proposal, which has yet to happen. With lawmakers focused on passing government funding legislation, there is no news, updates or movement on those proposals.
When are stimulus checks being mailed?
Trump indicated the $2,000 checks would arrive mid-2026 while speaking with reporters at the White House. However, no concrete payment plan exists as Congress has not approved the checks.
Did the IRS approve $2,000 stimulus checks?
No, the IRS has not officially approved $2,000 stimulus checks to be sent out to Americans in 2025.
This isn’t the 1st stimulus check Trump suggested in 2025
This is not the first hint of using funds generated by tariffs to send a stimulus payment to Americans. There was a previous discussion of doing this in August 2025.
After Trump originally suggested it during the summer, Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley proposed the American Worker Rebate Act of 2025, which would have provided a minimum of $600 per adult and dependent child, or $2,400 for a family of four, according to news officials in August. The bill was referred to a Senate committee, but there were no updates on it as of November.
According to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan nonprofit that studies fiscal policy, Trump’s proposal would cost about double the money that the U.S. is expected to make in new import duties.
Earlier in 2025, there was also talk of a DOGE dividend, which would be funded by money the department cut from other groups.
Though politicians and Trump himself talked about the idea, the stimulus checks were never formally approved by Congress. There has been no news about this proposal for months.
