Arsenal are looking to end their silverware drought and win their first Premier League title since 2003/04 with the Gunners flying under Mikel Arteta
Arsenal are chasing glory in both the Premier League and Champions League this season.
Arsenal continued their brilliant start to the season with a 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The result means Mikel Arteta’s side is still unbeaten in Europe’s elite competition and is among the favourites to win it outright.
The Gunners have conceded just once in the competition so far after clashes with Athletic Club Bilbao, Olympiacos, Atletico Madrid, Slavia Prague and Bayern. Their incredible defensive record was breached by Lennart Karl, who equalised for Vincent Kompany’s side just after the half-hour mark, cancelling out Jurrien Timber’s opener.
However, the Gunners showed their class and would run out winners thanks to goals from Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli. All eyes will now turn back to domestic action, with Arsenal leading the Premier League title race as things stand.
Arteta’s men are six points clear of their nearest rivals, Chelsea, who are up next. Arsenal travel across London knowing a win could see them extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points, should other results go their way.
The Gunners were able to capitalise on defeats for Manchester City and the reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool, last weekend. The latter of Arsenal’s two title rivals is in the middle of a crisis, having lost five of their last seven games in all competitions, and were thrashed 4-1 by PSV in the Champions League during the week.
