McLaren’s Piastri call could turn title race

Lando Norris will be crowned world champion if he wins the Qatar Grand Prix on Monday morning (AEDT).

But the Brit’s failure to complete his final lap of qualifying means Aussie Oscar Piastri will start on pole, with Norris having to settle for second on the grid.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, the only other driver in title contention, will start in third.

Piastri took out the sprint race earlier this weekend, closing the gap on his teammate and title rival to 22 points, with everything on the line in the feature race on Monday.

There is still a maximum of 50 points up for grabs, with the Aussie still hopeful he can pull off a late comeback to clinch his maiden F1 title.

If Norris scores four more points than Piastri and one more than Verstappen, he will win his maiden title.

However, if Piastri leads from start to finish from pole and Norris finds bother, he could be leading the title race heading into the final weekend of the season, so there is plenty on the line in Qatar.
