The UEFA Europa League is well and truly underway.
With five games gone, just three points separate 15th place Roma and table leaders Olympique Lyonnais.
There are four teams who are unbeaten so far, but none of them are in the top three. This is occupied by Lyon, Midtjylland and Aston Villa, but they have all lost one game with zero losses each.
Meanwhile, SC Freiburg, Real Betis and Ferencvaros occupy fourth, fifth and sixth place in the table with three wins and two draws each.
Incredibly, Viktoria Plzen are in 13th place despite having yet to lose. This is down to two draws and three defeats.
There is plenty of action in this season’s edition of the tournament, with one former United player narrowly escaped a red card yesterday.
During a clash between Betis and FC Utrecht in the Europa League, The Mirror have reported that former Manchester United attacker Antony headbutted an opponent.
The 25-year old managed to avoid a red card, despite being seen to raise his head towards Utrecht left-back Souffian El Karouani.
This comes after Antony was sent off during Betis’ 1-1 draw with Girona on the weekend, which will rule him out of their clash with Sevilla on Sunday.
The Brazilian has impressed since making the move from United to Betis.
He arrived on loan last season but since made it permanent after impressing in Spain.
Antony’s time at United was nothing short of a disaster, and he is widely regarded as one of the worst Premier League transfers of all-time.
He arrived from Ajax in the summer of 2022, for a fee of £82 million.
However, in 96 appearances for United, he recorded a measly 12 goals and five assists, with more yellow cards than either of these categories.
At Betis, he has recorded more goals (15) and assists (eight) than his entire time in Manchester, despite having played 57 less games.
He helped guide the Spanish side to the UEFA Conference League final last season, a game they led 1-0 in against Chelsea at halftime before losing 4-1.
It been a far from ideal week for Antony, and Betis fans will hope that this is just a blip and not a sign of things to come.
