Chelsea inch closer to incredible attempt to sign top tier youngster from bitter rivals

We’re now heading towards the next transfer season, and some serious rumours are popping up.

Talk of Chelsea interest in Myles Lewis-Skelly was first reported by our man Simon Phillips, and now the well connected Mark Brus has taken up on that on his Daily Briefing.

Thomas Tuchel pressure makes unlikely Chelsea move more possible

After Thomas Tuchel’s clear nudge to Lewis-Skelly that anyone who wants to go to the World Cup with England next summer needs to play regularly, the pressure is rising on the teenager to make big decisions about his future.

The youngster made a superb breakthrough with Arsenal last year, but has played far less this season, and is struggling to establish his role in the squad as they surge towards success domestically and in Europe. When we play them tomorrow, he will be watching from the bench.

“Chelsea very much want to make their pitch to Lewis-Skelly, they’d love to bring him in and make him a key player, something that’s not guaranteed for him at Arsenal,” their source says.

We’re not quite sure how that would work, given Marc Cucurella’s increasing importance to Chelsea. He’s not being displaced from Enzo Maresca’s first team anytime soon.

Then again, with Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie both regularly playing at left back at Arsenal, he might actually move from third choice to second choice if he comes to Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal are in control because of Lewis-Skelly’s long contract – and they would “only consider a change in stance if Lewis-Skelly were to make life difficult for them. We seem a very long way away from that now, to say the least.”

In other news…

Cucurella’s role in the Chelsea squad has grown greater and greater, and he’s now apparently being asked about potential transfers the club could make by those upstairs.

Chelsea and Arsenal had a combined XI for tomorrow’s game which featured Cucurella, showing just how good his form has been.
