Patriots defensive coach has high praise for Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart
FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots have been preparing to face New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who cleared concussion protocol earlier in the week.
Dart, who was the 25th overall pick in this year’s draft, had missed the past two games with Jameis Winston starting in his place.
Patriots defensive play caller Zak Kuhr, who spoke Friday, offered his impressions of the young quarterback, whose thrown 10 touchdown passes and rushed for seven more.
“He’s a great player … he has the will to win for all 60 minutes,” Kuhr said. “He plays the whole game no matter what the situation is, whether they’re down or up. He’s playing to win the game.
“He’s just the ultimate competitor. You can see that on film,” Kuhr went on. “He’s taken those hits … I think that’s the competitiveness in him. But he’s accurate, elusive, a great scrambler, and keeps his eyes downfield. He’s got a lot of good qualities.”
Dart, who has started seven games, took over for an ineffective Russell Wilson.
Might the Patriots opt to put a spy on him?
“You’d like your front to have good, coordinated rush lanes, where you don’t have to attribute a guy to him like that,” Kuhr said. “But we have to be able to adjust depending what happens throughout the game.”
