Mission: Impossible Star Plays Coy About Key Rebecca Ferguson Moment in Fallout

Returning The Family Plan 2 star Michelle Monaghan opens up about her iconic moment with Rebecca Ferguson in Mission: Impossible — Fallout. The actress made her debut in 2006’s Mission: Impossible 3, and returned several times in the franchise.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Monaghan was asked if she was finally willing to reveal what Rebecca Ferguson’s character whispered to her at the end of Mission: Impossible — Fallout back in 2018. “I will never tell! And I don’t think she’ll ever tell,” Monaghan replied. “That was our little secret. Gosh, she’s such a firecracker. She’s a dynamite woman. That’s such a special franchise to me.”
“The opportunities to be able to work with and befriend the people that have come in and out of that franchise have been so special,” she continued. “It’s informed so much of my career over the years. Rebecca is someone who I will have a long-lasting friendship with, and I respect her to the moon and back.”
When asked if Ferguson whispered a different line with each take of the scene, Monaghan confirmed, “She definitely changed it up. She’s quite rascally, that one.”
Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – Fallout brought back longtime star Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt for yet another pulse-pounding adventure. The film also brought back Ferguson’s MI6 agent Ilsa Faust, as well as Monaghan’s Julia, a doctor who just so happens to be Hunt’s ex-wife, whose life is largely spent in hiding due to his many enemies. The film featured an iconic scene in which Ilsa whispers something to Julia that the audience never got the chance to make out for themselves.

Monaghan is currently slated to return to the silver screen (in a manner of speaking) for both the upcoming crime thriller The Whisper Man from director James Ashcroft and the upcoming John Cena-led comedy from director Matt Spicer, Little Brother, both of which will be making their way to Netflix upon release. Though neither film currently has a planned release date, fans can already catch Monaghan in her latest feature film outing, The Family Plan 2, which made its way to Apple TV on Nov. 21.
Like the 2023 original, The Family Plan 2 is directed by Simon Cellan Jones from a screenplay by David Coggeshall, and sees its leading cast face off against shadowy forces. This time around, it is Finn, portrayed by Kit Harington, who is behind all the mayhem and torment targeting the Morgan family, consisting of parents Dan and Jessica (Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan) and children Nina and Kyle (Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby).
Like the first film, The Family Plan 2 has been met with largely negative reviews from critics since its premiere on Apple TV. Surprisingly, even audiences have widely lambasted the film this time around, leaving The Family Plan 2 with a 38% critical approval rating and a 36% audience score via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. For comparison, 2023’s The Family Plan holds 29% critical and 60% audience approval ratings via Rotten Tomatoes as of the time of writing.
The Family Plan 2 is currently available for streaming on Apple TV.
