Marles launches biggest Defence overhaul in five decades

Defence Minister Richard Marles has announced the biggest shake-up of the department in five decades, creating an independent agency to run major projects in the hope of preventing multi-billion-dollar procurement blowouts.
Marles and Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy said the new Defence Delivery Agency (DDA) would be formed next year by stripping the Defence Department of its acquisition, guided weapons and sustainment groups, causing it to lose about 25 per cent of its civilian workforce and 40 per cent of its budget, which will be transferred to the new agency.
