Aggie sophomore dies after attending rivalry game tailgate

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – A Texas A&M sophomore died early Saturday in Austin, hours after attending a tailgate for Friday’s Lone Star Showdown football game between Texas A&M and the University of Texas.
The family of Brianna Aguilera says they are looking for answers after learning of her death. While they know Aguilera attended a tailgate, they say what happened afterward is unclear.
The Austin Police Department says Aguilera died just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, at a student apartment complex near the University of Texas campus. The Travis County Medical Examiner will investigate her cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
A GoFundMe set up by family members to help cover funeral expenses shared Aguilera’s love of being an Aggie.
“She was pursuing her dream of becoming a lawyer and was attending The Bush School of Government & Public Service at Texas A&M, her dream was to always be an AGGIE! She was a year shy of attaining her Aggie ring,” the fund’s description read in part.
“[Although] my princess is in a brighter realm, I take solace in the memories we created together,” commented Stephanie Rodriguez, Aguilera’s mother. “My baby angel and princess is with God, and I find peace in that truth!”
Aguilera was originally from the Laredo area and was a graduate of United High School, where she was a cheerleader and honors student.
Aguilera’s GoFundMe has met its goal, but remained open on Monday afternoon. Funeral services for Aguilera are pending.
