Giants legend Eli Manning chimes in during Lane Kiffin saga

Lane Kiffin finally put an end to weeks of rumors on Sunday when he accepted the head coaching position at LSU.

With that Kiffin will not finish out the season with Ole Miss. The night before the decision, the parody account 247Sport shared a post on X that read: “JUST IN: Ole Miss has announced that if Lane Kiffin departs for LSU, former Rebels QB and NFL legend Eli Manning will take over as head coach.”

Manning decided to join in on the fun and responded to the post.

“‘Coach Manning’ has a nice ring to it,” he wrote.

Manning played at Ole Miss from 2000 to 2003.

Of course, those were all jokes. After Kiffin announced his decision, Ole Miss elevated defensive coordinator Pete Golding to head coach.

With Kiffin’s decision to take the LSU job, he will not be able to lead the Rebels to their first College Football Playoff appearance.

“My request to do so was denied by [Ole Miss AD] Keith Carter despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level. of performance,” Kiffin wrote.
