Patriots Have Clear Kyle Williams Change to Make in Week 14

To this point in the 2025 NFL season, the New England Patriots have been one of the league’s most successful teams, regardless of conference. Sitting at 10-2 entering Monday Night Football, New England sits in first place in the division and second in the conference. With a win against the Giants on Monday, Dec. 1, the team would reach 11 wins in a single season for the first time since 2019.

After a rough 2024 campaign that saw the Patriots finish 4-13, the team fired first-year head coach Jerod Mayo and hired Mike Vrabel. Immediately, Vrabel has instilled a bond with the team that has helped lead New England’s turnaround.

Of all the areas to see growth under Vrabel’s watch, nothing has been more impressive than the development of second-year quarterback Drake Maye. Following an average rookie season, Maye was expected to take the second-year jump under Vrabel and new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. While his sophomore season is not over just yet, Maye has taken a bigger leap than expected, putting himself in the MVP conversation.

Even though the wide receiver room faced questions heading into the season, veteran receiver Stefon Diggs has shown he was worth the gamble. Diggs has helped the young group by being a great veteran presence for the receivers. With Diggs in place as the leader of the unit, the Patriots should look to involve rookie Kyle Williams more moving forward, as the stakes will only be raised from this point forward, meaning Maye can never have too many options in the passing game.

Patriots Must Get Kyle Williams More Involved on Offense

It hasn’t been the best rookie campaign for Kyle Williams up to this point. On the season, Williams has four catches on 12 targets for 110 yards and one touchdown. Though the production isn’t good, Williams gives the Patriots something the offense can lack: an explosive play threat. The big play ability by Williams was on display against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when Williams hauled in a 72-yard touchdown.

When he gets the ball in his hands, Williams’ speed makes him a huge threat after the catch. With the Patriots having a bye next week, this is the perfect time to install some plays where Williams’ run-after-catch ability can be utilized. New England wouldn’t even need to make Williams a starting receiver. Just give Williams simple routes where he can use his speed in the open field.

Getting Williams more involved would benefit the team now and in the future. After spending a third-round pick on Williams, the Patriots were clearly high on his potential, so the team should look to get him more involved. That is the best way for him to improve as a player after all.
