15 counties in Michigan under winter weather alerts with chance for 3-12 inches of snow

There are 15 counties in Michigan under winter weather alerts because of a chance to get up to 12 inches of snow.

Here are the counties affected:

Winter storm warning

Mason, Muskegon, and Oceana counties are under a winter storm warning from now until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Emmet County is under a winter storm warning from 4 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Emmet County — 4 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Mason County — now until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Muskegon County — now until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Oceana County — now until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Heavy snow is expected, with total snow accumulations between 4-12 inches. Greater amounts are possible in spots.

Snow intensity is expected to increase through the afternoon, especially along the coast of Lake Michigan, from Grand Haven through Muskegon to Mantague.

Hazardous road conditions could affect the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

Winter weather advisory

Ottawa, Lake, and Newaygo counties are under a winter weather advisory until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Charlevoix, Cheboygan, eastern Mackinac, and southeast Chippewa counties — as well as Mackinac Island Bois Blanc Island — are under a winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Antrim, Benzie, Leelanau, and Manistee Counties are under a winter weather advisory from 7 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Antrim County — 7 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Benzie County — 7 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Charlevoix County — 4 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Cheboygan County — 4 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Chippeaw County (southeast) — 4 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Leelanau County — 7 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Mackinac County (eastern) — 4 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Manistee County — 7 p.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Ottawa County — now until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Lake County — now until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

  • Newaygo County — now until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Snow is expected, with total accumulations likely between 3-7 inches. Higher amounts are possible in spots.

Snow intensity is expected to increase through Monday afternoon, especially along the coast of Lake Michigan.

Drivers should plan to encounter slipper road conditions that affect the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.
