Mark Allen falls to UK Championship defeat in York

MARK Allen’s bid for a second career UK title ended with a whimper on Monday evening as the out-of-sorts Antrim man lost 6-1 to Scott Donaldson in York.

The world number seven never looked comfortable at any stage of the match and his only success came from a break of 57 in frame four.

Breaks of 62 and 52 had Donaldson 2-0 ahead and the third frame lasted 59 minutes before the Scot eventually took it to lead 3-0.

When play resumed after the mid-session interval, Donaldson won two consecutive frames lasting over 45 minutes and then took the seventh on the black to get over the line.

He clenched his fist after deposting the final ball. Donaldson will now face Chinese legend Ding Junhui.
