Live updates: Record-setting storm barrels into the Northeast, threatening havoc for morning commute

The winter snowstorm is wreaking travel chaos across the US, triggering flight delays and road accidents.

In the air:

Travelers flying into, out of, and within the US faced thousands of delays Monday, with Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport reporting the most delays and cancellations, according to FlightAware.

In the past 24 hours, more than 1,500 flights out of or into O’Hare were delayed, while at least 333 were cancelled, according to the Chicago Department of Aviation.

On the roads:

The storm is also creating hazardous road conditions. Police in Missouri are reporting numerous accidents as snow, slick roads and cold temperatures hit the state. In northern Illinois, one child was hospitalized after a school bus crash.

Roads could be coated with up to a quarter-inch or more of ice across the Appalachians in North Carolina, West Virginia and Virginia on Tuesday. And portions of I-64 in eastern Kentucky could also see very dangerous driving conditions.
