NEWS: JetBlue Airways CUTS Flights to Popular Florida Airport

Air travel has been hectic over the past few months with accidents, mass cancellations, and schedule changes. Now, another airline has just removed a nonstop route from its lineup.

JetBlue Airways just cut a route to one of Florida’s busiest airports, and it could impact your next vacation.

In August, we learned that the route between Newark Liberty International Airport and Tampa International Airport would be suspended as of December 1st. When we checked flights on JetBlue’s website today, we found that to be true.

For over half of December, there are no routes listed at all between the two cities. On December 18th, flights are listed again, but only routes with stops.

We didn’t spot any nonstop flights until April 29th, 2026, when they return for $79 per person, one-way. This is all subject to change, but it’s good to keep in mind while planning your 2026 travel.

Airlines are constantly cutting or adding routes depending on demand. Just this year, JetBlue pulled routes from Baltimore, Charlotte, and Bogota, Colombia. The airline is also discontinuing all service from Rhode Island’s T.F. Green International Airport.

Trying to get to Tampa from Newark? There are a few solutions. The first is to check out another airline. United has plenty of nonstops between the cities for a reasonable price in the first few months of 2026.

Another option is to book from a different airport. Newark is pretty close to John F. Kennedy Airport and LaGuardia Airport — both of which have nonstop flights to Tampa during this time.

Why fly into Tampa? Well, many travelers who want to venture outside Disney World on their trips tend to head to Tampa. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is a very popular theme park, plus it’s much closer to the beach than Orlando. It’s only about an hour to an hour and a half drive away, so it might be cheaper to fly into Tampa if you’re getting a rental car anyway!
