History Comes Alive: Carcassonne’s The Last Ramparts VR Expedition Lands in Montreal

Montreal’s Old Port welcomes a striking new addition to its cultural landscape.

On November 18, 2025, Infinity Experiences unveiled The Last Ramparts: The Medieval Expedition. Presented as a Quebec premiere and produced by Excurio and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux (CMN), this large-scale VR immersive work invites visitors into a vivid reconstruction of Carcassonne, the largest fortified medieval city in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With its massive stone ramparts and 52 towers, Carcassonne is a living monument to the grandeur of the Middle Ages and is one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval fortresses

Previously presented in France, Australia, China, and Turkey, The Last Ramparts now brings its ambitious Middle Ages expedition to Quebec audiences for the first time.

The 45-minute experience transports participants to the year 1304, at a pivotal moment in Carcassonne’s history, where political, social, and religious tensions shaped the daily life of this formidable southern French stronghold.

Equipped with a VR headset, visitors follow two charismatic guides: Simon, a young lord, and Agnès, a spirited city girl.

Their journey leads them, as well as yourself, through the bustle of a Medieval market, join nocturnal watches atop the ramparts, view and be in the middle of sword-training sessions, and visit the private quarters of the city’s ruling elite. Will you be tempted to explore, defend the city walls or let chance decide your fate ?

The cinematic architectural depiction of the fortress feels impressively true to nature, with details validated by historical and architectural specialists from the CMN. These carefully crafted environments are so rich that guests may occasionally be tempted to wander visually, risking missing a few story line cues… but the freedom to explore is also a major part of the experience’s charm.

Designed to be family-friendly, The Last Ramparts balances education and entertainment with fluid storytelling and historically immersive scenes. Both narrative and technical execution mark this as Excurio’s most ambitious production to date.

It is a tremendous source of pride to offer the public a unique experience at the heart of this iconic fortress,” says Excurio CEO and Founder Fabien Barati.

Infinity Experiences’ Executive Producer and General Manager Julie Tremblay highlights the continued creative partnership that has brought this new project to Montreal.

The new attraction is presented at 2, rue de la Commune Ouest (next to the Montreal Science Centre) where it runs alongside the popular Horizon of Khéops.

Just in time for the Holidays , the on-site boutique still offers a wide selection of souvenirs from both the new film as well as from Khéops, though fewer medieval-themed items are available so far.

As with previous Excurio productions, The Last Ramparts benefits from the company’s proprietary immersive platform, a technological backbone behind major international successes such as Eternal Notre-Dame, Lost Worlds, and An Evening with the Impressionists in Paris 1874. With millions of visitors worldwide, Excurio continues to define new standards in cultural entertainment.

Visitors can learn more through Infinity Experiences, an organization dedicated to bringing large-scale immersive works to global audiences by collaborating with visionary creators and building destinations that merge art, history, and cutting-edge tech.

The Last Ramparts opens November 18, 2025 in Montreal’s Old Port.
