Cata Coll stars in Nations League final

The Spanish women’s national team played out a 0-0 draw in Kaiserlautern in the first leg of the Nations League final on Friday against Germany. The home side had the better of the first half but after the break Sonia Bermúdez’s team came back into the game although they were unable to find the goal that would have given them victory. The title is still up for grabs with the second leg to come in the Metropolitano stadium in Madrid on Tuesday.

Blaugrana representation

No less than eight Barça players were in the starting XI for Spain in Germany: Cata Coll, Irene Paredes, Mapi León, Laia Aleixandri, Ona Batlle, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí and Clàudia Pina. The star of the evening was goalkeeper Cata Coll who made several vital saves, especially in the first half, to keep the Germans at bay.

Irene Paredes was also key in keeping a clean sheet alongside fellow Barça defenders Mapi León and Laia Aleixandri.

All to play for

After the goalless first leg, the Nations League title will be decided on Tuesday when the two team meet in the Cívitas Metropolitano in Madrid for the second and decisive leg.
