Laura Woods ‘taken ill’ after collapsing while presenting England coverage

Laura Woods appeared to collapse while presenting ITV’s coverage of England’s match against Ghana and had to be caught by Ian Wright and Anita Asante.

Woods, 38, was leading ITV’s broadcast of the game from St Mary’s, and was replaced by Katie Shanahan, who announced that Woods had been “taken ill but she’s in very good hands”.

The incident occurred when the camera was on Wright, who was one of ITV 4’s two pundits along with Asante. While Wright was speaking, he seemed to notice Woods falling, before a wider shot of the three briefly showed Wright and Asante propping Woods up, before Woods fell to the turf.

Wright, the former England striker, could be heard saying, “Are you OK?” before ITV cut to a five-minute advertisement break.

When coverage resumed Shanahan had taken Woods’s place alongside Wright and Asante, who is also a former England international. “As you have probably noticed we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she’s just been taken ill but she’s in very good hands, so I’m stepping in at late notice,” Shanahan said.

Woods had a break from presenting after the birth of her first child in January with the former Love Island contestant Adam Collard but returned to work in April.

ITV has been contacted for comment.
